Portrait upscaling with Flare
Portraits are where AI upscaling earns its keep. Flare recovers iris detail, eyelash separation and lip definition from 300 to 800px sources without the plastic skin that cheaper sharpeners introduce.
Flare adds nothing. Output is built only from detail already in your file, so the result stays true to what you uploaded. More about Flare
Why Flare for portraits
- Holds skin tone rather than shifting it warmer or cooler.
- Fast enough to run over a whole shoot rather than a hero frame.
- Adds nothing, so the face in the output is the face you photographed.
Workflow
- 1Crop tight to the subject before upscaling so none of the budget goes on background.
- 2Upload and pick Flare.
- 3Use 4x for web delivery.
- 4For print or close inspection, run the same file through Lumen and compare.
Honest caveat
On very soft sources Flare cannot invent what is not there. If the face is a blur, no faithful model will fix it, and Mirage will only make up a different face.
