Lumen for portraits: pore-level detail for print
Where Flare is the sensible default, Lumen is the upgrade you take when the portrait will be printed large or inspected closely. Skin texture, individual hair strands and fabric weave hold up rather than dissolving.
Lumen adds nothing. Output is built only from detail already in your file, so the result stays true to what you uploaded. More about Lumen
Why Lumen for portraits
- Recovers detail that survives close inspection at print size.
- Reaches 8x, enough for exhibition and billboard output.
- Faithful, so commercial and documentary work stays usable.
Workflow
- 1Retouch before upscaling, not after: you do not want to retouch 8x the pixels.
- 2Upload and pick Lumen.
- 3Choose 8x only if the print size needs it. 4x is usually enough.
- 4Soft proof before committing to paper.
Honest caveat
Lumen takes longer and costs more per job than Flare. On a web-sized deliverable the two are hard to tell apart.
